OpenAI also says GPT-5.5 matches GPT-5.4 per-token latency in real-world serving while performing at a higher intelligence level. In Codex tasks, OpenAI says it uses significantly fewer tokens to complete the same work. That is a subtle but important point: the model is more expensive per token than GPT-5.4, but token efficiency can change the real cost of completing a task.

Availability: ChatGPT and Codex first, API soon

For now, GPT-5.5 is primarily a ChatGPT and Codex rollout:
